    We have the Workstation Pro template for our site, and would really like to add some buttons right above or right below the "after header" area (where the site caption goes). Love the theme, but the white space up top is a bit much, and having a few buttons there to quickly navigate down to the main sections of the landing page would be very nice.

    My original thought was to somehow create a custom widget area, then use some text widgets with button coding on them to link down.

    Hopefully this request for assistance makes sense, but I have never really modified any child themes, and would appreciate any detailed advice you can give

    I'm looking at the Workstation Pro theme too and I concur with your design idea.
