Dear Genesis crowd,
i bought the whole package of themes, and as i am Totally New to everything, i have no clue which theme (and now which framework) to choose.
I need to transfer already existing site i bought from somebody, to WP with the Genesis. It's a basic info site on a particular medical condition. Mainly it's 40 informational content pages with text and some images. (I will input the pages content from WP dashboard manually.)
The front page, (and most existing pages) are static content. I do not need fresh blog posts appear on the front page . The blog needs to be on a different than Home page.
45% of the site visitors appear to be on mobile platforms, so it seems i need "mobile responsive" version (i hope to learn what it means as i go).
Which theme is that achievable with?
Should i download 2.0 Beta Genesis framework?
Thank you.
June 5, 2013 at 4:11 am #44128Debra ScottMemberIf you go here and choose Mobile Responsive under Theme Features you will see all the themes that meet that requirement.
http://my.studiopress.com/themes/
From there choose a theme that has the closest feel to what you want. Any theme can be made to look completely different with custom css changes.
It sounds like you might want to use the full page width template across your site unless you need a sidebar for extra informational or call to action spaces.
If you have the time to wait, you could wait until WordPress 3.6 and Genesis 2.0 drop. Production sites are best not built on beta releases.

June 5, 2013 at 3:51 pm #44231worksMemberThank you Debra for giving me directions, i appreciate it!
A theme called Focus has a version v.2.0.1. i wonder if the 2 in the version mean it might work comparatively better with the Genesis 2.0 BETA?
(i wish i could wait for the full Geneses 2.0 release, but have to make the choice and upload the site fast, otherwise the traffic will be lost...)
This tutorial http://studiopress.tv/custom-home-pages says the latest post only appears on Homepage in case the widgets are not used. I wonder if the Home page will be just like static page i need. Is that applicable to all themes i wonder.
Thank you.
June 5, 2013 at 7:02 pm #44249Debra ScottMemberYou can have a static homepage even if you use a widgeted homepage. Use Nick's Genesis Featured Widget Amplified and you can specify particular posts or pages to a widget. Focus doesn't use widgets so with that theme you would be using a static page.
Many of the themes are in version 2.0 or more so that doesn't tie into the Genesis 2.0 specifically.

June 5, 2013 at 8:29 pm #44260worksMemberOh, that is fantastic information i could dig for days and would not find out on my own, i appreciate it, Debra.
I will definitely try and use the Genesis Featured Widget Amplified.
May i ask you: what is the way to learn about the possible structures theme offers, and how many widgets (also colors etc), if at all, does the theme have, besides downloading installing and trying the theme on live site?
Thank you.
June 5, 2013 at 8:53 pm #44263Debra ScottMemberdownloading and trying of course gives you the best feel for what the theme offers. There is an interactive theme chooser here.
You can check out the showcase forum for ideas on how others have used themes.
And by looking through the demos and various layout options in the menus you can get a feel for a theme before even downloading it.

June 5, 2013 at 11:19 pm #44269worksMemberwow, it's a lot more difficult that i imagined...
If i go with Prose theme, how do i choose a certain Page be my Home with http://Healing-Fibroids.com URL?
I go to Settings>Reading, and there is a Front Page set up, but it does not let me to choose/save any page??
The Menu set up had a preset choice of Home button for http://Healing-Fibroids.com URL which is great, but how do i choose it to be the Front page (not a Post, not a display of Latest Posts, but a static Front/Home page) and upload my text on it?
Thank you...
June 6, 2013 at 6:49 am #44289Debra ScottMemberstatic homepage is chosen via Reading / Static homepage - then you choose the page you have created from the dropdown list of pages.
If your theme comes with a home.php you need to rename that page to home_org.php so that it does not override your changes.
You can set and alter your menu buttons through Appearance - Menus

June 6, 2013 at 4:55 pm #44445worksMemberYes, in Prose theme, first i created a page, but then when i went to Reading / Static homepage, the drop down list would not show the page.
June 6, 2013 at 5:31 pm #44449Debra ScottMemberodd. Double check it is a page not a post, sounds silly but we have all done it.
Next change the theme and see if you can set while using a different theme.

June 6, 2013 at 6:53 pm #44453worksMemberNope, it was a Page, but i still was doing something wrong, i guess...because when i tried another theme, it similarly didn't work too.
I chose Lifestyle theme for now, as it had widgets for Home page which allow for Static looking Front page creation. Not happy as it is not mobile responsive and having troubles putting a picture to the "all widgets" front page now.. but it's better than nothing.
5 pages are up and running so far http://healing-fibroids.com
Will try to figure out the details in Lifestyle showcase forum, i guess?
Thank you, Debra and the StudioPress forums!
