    I searched all the files in my child theme (I use the example child theme of the Genesis Framework) and I can't find genesis_do_nav anywhere, though I have a navigation bar after my header. I use wordpress.

    I was trying to give my navigation a different css class on the homepage than on all other pages. But now where is my navigation called? ..
    My homepage and my default page template both have this code:

    //* Remove default site header
    remove_action( 'genesis_header', 'genesis_do_header' );

    You should never change Genesis core files. You can break the framework and every update to Genesis will over write the modifications. Here's an article that shows you how to add custom classes through any Genesis Framework hook to their corresponding built-in hooks. http://victorfont.com/genesis-framework-add-a-custom-css-class-to-elements/

    Can't I modify them in a child theme, of course I didn't change them in the parent theme. I thought that would keep changes from getting lost. Also, still I have no clue where my navigation is called... I will check the link later, thank you

    The genesis_do functions are part of the core framework. They do not exist in the child theme. You can either write a custom function to replace the genesis_do_nav and add it to your child theme or simply add a class to an element as I show you in my article.
