Hi there - I am preparing for a upgrade to PHP7. For this particular site, its on a managed VPS server. We've been with the host for 10 plus years and are very happy with them. They provided quite a few tips concerning what we have to do concerning the upgrade. For example,

    * Make our own backup in addition to the backups they'll make
    * Check each plugin for PHP7 Compatibility
    * Check our records for any PHP customization

I also searched Google and founds a few articles and also searched this forum but only found a few references to PHP7.

So, is there anything theme related I should be aware of? I know that the php upgrade can be rolled back if needed. Thanks!

Genesis runs fine on PHP7. I have dozens of Genesis sites running on it and PHP 7.1 without issue.

    Hi there,
I noticed you guys are talking about PHP7 and Genesis. I have a Genesis-Executive Pro theme website hosted on GoDaddy. The site speed is poor. We will address the site speed per the usual practices. But, we got a note on our dashboard recently saying that it would benefit our site speed if we were running our website on PHP7.

Do we NEED to be running on PHP7?

We called GoDaddy and they said it would cost extra to upgrade to PHP7.

Also, does Genesis require a hosting service with PHP7? If not, why not? If not now, when?

A majority of my clients are with GoDaddy. (Not my choice, btw). I need to know how important it is to move them or not move them or to upgrade them.

Thanks, in advance, for your help!

PHP7 is the WordPress recommendation, not Genesis. WordPress recommends that hosts are setup for:

    PHP version 7 or greater
MySQL version 5.6 or greater OR MariaDB version 10.0 or greater
    HTTPS support

    See WordPress requirements: https://wordpress.org/about/requirements/

Thank you, Victor. It helps me to be sure that it's WP's requirements; not Genesis' requirements. I appreciate your reply.
