Uber Menu & Minimum Pro

I've seen a few people using Uber Menu with Genesis and having a range of problems.

I'm trying to get uber menu working on the Header Top Right widget area custom menu I added.
Uber menu works in the other regular menu locations but not through this menu.

Uber Menu support gives some code snippets none of which work for me. Anyone using Uber Menu, Minimum Pro on a Custom Widget Menu?

I also noticed the mobile menu doesn't work for Minimum Pro when the menu is added to Header Top Right widget.

Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

Hi,

You've picked a doozie of a problem, which I can't solve for you, but can give you a couple ideas. Most of the menu CSS is geared towards typical Primary and Secondary locations, and that's understandable, as they're most common. I know that with one Genesis child theme I bought, the first version of it had incomplete menu CSS code for any menu put in the header, specifically for dropdowns. I had to write code myself to make it work.

With that in mind, when you are looking at your Ubermenu up there, take a look at your CSS (with Firebug or the like) and see if your links (or other menu elements) are being effected by the .site-header class, or possible the .widget_nav_menu class. You may need to alter or comment out some of this code to make that Ubermenu work. Just one bogus bit of code like that could trash the whole thing. Ubermenu is gigantic, and thus has many moving parts.

If that sounds too hard, I think there's an easier way. You can re-position your Primary (or Secondary) menu, putting it up at the top. No guarantees, but if Uber is working in the regular Primary position, it might work just fine without changes if you do this.

Hey David, yeah sorry I just added the link in cause it asked for it but client doesn't want his dev site showing live of course.

I appreciate your feedback, and yes i have been considering re-positioning the primary menu.
It doesn't appear to be a CSS issue as the normal dropdown is showing fine on that menu in fact it also shows the sub menu item just doesn't show the sub menu item as a mega menu.

I appreciate your feedback, Uber Menu sure is a monster, nice plugin though.

Right, if the mega sub menu won't appear anywhere, you may have a bigger problem than CSS, or you may need different CSS from that in the sample. There are a lot of Genesis themes, and I'm guessing Sevenspark isn't testing every new one with bated breath!

Hi david yeah I checked there, they sent me there as well when I posted on their forum. Like I said it works in menus built into the theme but not on widget menus so I moved the primary menu to the header and busy reworking things to get it looking usable in there right now.

Bummer that the widget menu and ubermenu code structure is so different that they look completely different.

I still wonder if you could persevere and make this work. The HTML structure of the menu itself, whether generated from the header widget or regular menu location, is nearly identical, but there's lots of surrounding code in the widget that could mess things up in the header. That's why I say that you may need more CSS overrides to get the menu working up there, but it could work. Unless there's something very strange about that theme. Admittedly, some serious CSS chops would be needed, because a megamenu is one of the most complex CSS tasks ever.

Or just tell the client Ubermenu doesn't work, and move on. 🙂
