Does anyone know of a slider in which you can add your own graphics, text and link? One that does not pull graphics from a page?

Among Free option, check https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-responsive-slider/ and https://wordpress.org/plugins/ml-slider/

Among premium sliders with overdose of features check: Revolution Slider and Layer Slider

Thanks for the quick response! It's not clear to me, though, how you can put it inside a widget. The example for ML slider shows adding the shortcode to a page. Simple Resolution doesn't exactly say how to do it. Can they be added to a text widget that is placed in the top position on the home page? Thanks.

    1. Create new Widgets on homepage - http://www.basicwp.com/add-new-widget-genesis-homepage/
    2. Then drag the slider to that widget section.
