    Can anyone suggest the simplest method of creating a slide show of images to go in one of the middle section of the backcountry theme ?

    If you're using the Jetpack plugin, you can simply create the slide show and paste the shortcode for it into a text widget.

    Otherwise, you can install a slider plugin like the Genesis Responsive Slider, Soliloquy or Easing Slider.

    The Genesis Responsive Slider includes a widget you can drag into any widget area.

    The other 2 sliders include a shortcode you can simply paste into a text widget and drag it into any widget area.

    Another option is to create a custom widget area or hook a slider directly into any hook position in your theme.

    If you use shortcodes in widgets, you will need to add support for shortcodes in your child themes functions.php file.

    add_filter('widget_text', 'do_shortcode');

    Many Thanks Brad, a quick follow up query so I am clear on it ......

    In your last comment you mentioned to add support for the short code in the function.php file. Do you mean this needs to be done even if using the Jetpack plugin ?

    Yes. Shortcodes will not parse unless you add support, with the line of code above, to your child themes functions.php file.

    Even with the famous Jetpack plugin.
