Hey guys -- I updated WordPress and updated genesis and my sidebar text and flash ad widgets disappeared. I'm not seeing that anyone had the exact same problem in doing a search. They show up on the backend but not on the site. Anyone know an easy remedy? Should I just downgrade my WordPress version?

Have you requested your free website audit yet?June 21, 2017 at 12:50 pm #208042wandererParticipantHi Victor,
Thanks! but only some of them are showing -- google ads, Instagram, search and popular posts but I have some homemade ads made with html such as 'airport pickup''rooms for under $10 a night in San Telmo' and a CJ Expedia ad that aren't showing even after I remove cookies.
I just realized they are all the ones from the secondary sidebar and now that I cleared the cookies they are gone from the backend.

<img src="http://www.tqlkg.com/image-5315001-12298005" width="468" height="60" "float right" alt="Business Class Deals"/>
"float right" is not anything that belongs in an image tag. If you want the image to float right, use class="align-right".
Second, none of the pages I've looked at are setup to display a secondary sidebar. You pages are all use the content-sidebar layout.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?June 22, 2017 at 3:48 pm #208121wandererParticipantHi Victor
Thank you so much for the html correction.
I perhaps erroneously referred to the secondary sidebar -- before the update I had two smaller columns with half-sized text widgets under the main 300px sidebar column.
I realized that both of my Argentina websites are missing some of these text widgets in the sidebar such as even simple ones pointing to another page such as:
Check out <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Wander-Argentina.com</span>
or graphic ads set up with html such as this one:
Am I the only one with dissapearing sidebar widgets?
June 22, 2017 at 4:09 pm #208124RobertMemberAre these images you host on your site or are they delivered from somewhere else like an ad network or cdn? I see things wrong with the site, but nothing off the bat that indicates this particular issue.
Your footer formatting also needs to be corrected. It looks like your body tag and HTML markup are kinda on the sloppy side. I only took a quick glance at your source code, but more information is needed to figure this out.
How should your site look, do you have an example of that? Or where are the missing images exactly? Take a screenshot and circle where the missing images should be or something.
Thanks!

RobertMcMillin.comJune 23, 2017 at 10:06 pm #208224wandererParticipantHi Robert! Thank you for your answer. The content that is missing is hosted on my site and also a couple of scripts from ad networks. I think it has something to do with the html and the new visual editable widgets? I did save them in text form and they still don't show up.
Yes my footer is messed up! I don't even know if that is still done in functions.php or in the genesis footer scripts now.
Please see below, all those ads and the 'PorteƱo Corner' column are not showing up, although initially I could see them on the backend under secondary sidebar. Now I put one back under primary sidebar (the airport transfer ad) and it still isn't showing up.
I am looking to hire someone to help me. I earn pesos though!
June 24, 2017 at 6:51 am #208231Victor FontModeratorThe text widget in WordPress 4.8 now uses TinyMCE as its editor. This change has broken the backwards compatibility that WordPress has always provided. The new text widget will leave content alone until you edit it. Once you edit old content in the text widget, all of the TinyMCE filters kick in removing scripts, changing HTML, and reformatting text. This has been causing untold problems for thousands of websites.
I collaborated with https://christinacreativedesign.com/ to turn the original text widget into a plugin. We only released it into the WordPress repository two weeks ago, but from its three available sources, it has been installed over 600 times. I'd like to suggest that you try it. https://wordpress.org/plugins/classic-text-widget/
Installing this won't automatically transfer the content from the WordPress text widget into the one, but Christina wrote an article that is linked in the FAQs that explains how to bulk transfer your pre-4.8 text widget content into this one.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?June 29, 2017 at 4:00 pm #208492wandererParticipantThanks so much Victor. That looks great. I am holding out for an update that incorporates a text widget again. I reckon that must be coming if a lot of people are having this same problem with the visual editor, as I already have too many plugins. I will wait a bit and download your plugin if they don't address this problem.
I am still looking to hire help for my various issues if any coder who is affordable is looking for work. Not sure why when I started I was able to to figure this stuff out, but now it just takes too long to wrap my head around things.
