    Hi all - really confused here, as when I set up my landing page, it previews and displays correctly, with no header and footer, but when I set my front page to it as a static page, a header saying "a wordpress site" and a footer appears. What is going on?! I can't turn it off, despite setting virtually everything saying "header" in the css to display: none. Is there something on the homepage which FORCES and header and footer to appear? Totally defeats the purpose of this landing page.

    Ah...ok I tried simply:

    header {
    display: none;
    }
    footer {
    display:none;
    }

    And that got rid of it, but I'm still confused how these differ from .site-header and .site-footer and why they still showed up on the landing page template in the theme I used for the home page? Any ideas? Thanks in advance - was very frustrated there!

    If you are using a child theme containing a template for the front page (look for the file front-page.php) then this will be overriding and adding the header and footer for any page which you use as the front page of your site.

    You can either remove via CSS, as you have shown, which will work. Or change the front-page.php template and remove the header and footer. (You would find the code needed to do this inside the page_landing.php template.

    Thanks David - I ended up downloading a 'maintenance mode" plugin, which is working better for what I need to do anyway. Appreciate the response!
