I am editing the lifestyle theme and would like to show a 2 feature posts, including featured image, before the standard look on the first 'blog' page.

Are you wanting to have the featured posts be static (as in "sticky" post?), or are you looking to just have your two most recent posts be "featured posts"? If you're looking to do that, have you looked at the Genesis Grid plugin by Bill Erickson?

I am looking for 'featured posts'.
I have Genesis Grid installed, however, it seems to strip the formatting of the post, removing the style tags and making things on large lump. I have the length of the except set to 350 for RSS, but for the grid plug in, it really doesn't look that great at all.
