    I have added the following code to create the lines in between the navigation - however I don't like how it goes from top to bottom.

    #subnav li {
    	border-left: 1px solid #30162B;
    }

    #subnav li:first-child {
    	border-left: none;
    }

    Without changing the text size how can I make that border line shorter?

    Try adding the following to your style.css:

    #subnav li a {
    padding: 0 16px 0 15px !important;
    }

    #subnav {
    padding-bottom: 5px;
    }

    Adjust the values to suit yourself.
