    I have included a featured post widget on my home page and that shows all categories, I wish to omit one category from the view - can I do this? I know there are other widgets that do this but they do not seem to be maintained or have problems. I have tried display:none on the category class which I do not wish to include - and it works but I am unsure if this is wise to do/

    Thank you Antac, I have tried it and it does not appear to work, I am a bit surprised SP have not included this within the shipped widget, thank you for your suggestion.

    There is the Genesis Featured Widget Amplified that is in the repository, however it hasn't been updated there yet. But, you can go to Github and get an updated copy. Go here and look on the far right side - click Download Zip. Download and install it - it has the features you are looking for. You can exclude by a category ID number.
