    Hi there,

    Slowly but surely I am chipping away at understanding the responsive code.

    I have a new site at : http://timetowr.wwwss19.a2hosted.com/

    I am using the genesis sample child theme

    And everything seems to be working fine except the main content area seems just a hair larger than it should be thus creating this floating sort of effect left to right (ipad portrait, iphone portrait and landscape) --

    I've played with the padding and I see the content areas set at 100% but not sure what causes it. Any ideas?

    I would expect the content and browser to be anchored and not be able to finger touch it left and right if that makes sense.

    what version of Genesis and the Sample theme are you using - I believe they are outdated and do not use the latest markup - as to your layout issue, you're applying some padding to the #inner div - it is set to 100% width + the padding therefore the overflow - border-box is not applied to the #inner div - you could add the #inner div to this in your stylesheet:

    body,
    input,
    select,
    textarea,
    .footer-widgets-1,
    .footer-widgets-2,
    .footer-widgets-3 {
    -moz-box-sizing: border-box;
    -webkit-box-sizing: border-box;
    box-sizing: border-box;
    }

    However, I suggest you update to the latest versions of Genesis and the theme.

    Thanks for your response. I will try and find this and resolve the padding issue.

    I have the latest version of Genesis. This genesis sample child theme was 1.9 (older version) but that said -- how could I even update that? Isn't the purpose of the child theme to do your customizations? So if I took the new genesis sample theme and overwrote mine, I would be back at square 1 for the css.

    So I am curious for now and going forward how would I upgrade that child theme?

    Thanks

    And if I take just the HTML5 normalize and (above the defaults) part of the new genesis sample theme that does the trick.

    So is that the best way to "upgrade" when Genesis sample is?

    Thanks again for helping me wrap my head around this - not just as a quick fix but in long-term understanding.
