Hi all,
I added the header right box back into the Genesis Sample Theme, but I would like to reposition the navigation below the logo and right header box like it used to be in older versions of the theme. Although I currently have the navigation below, I can't style the navigation separate from the header.
Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions.
KellyI did find this code, meant to go in the functions file, but it doesn't work.
Replace this on about line 145 in the functions file. // Repositions primary navigation menu. remove_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'genesis_do_nav' ); add_action( 'genesis_header', 'genesis_do_nav', 12 ); // Repositions header below logo and right header box. Use in conjunction with right header box. remove_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'genesis_do_nav' ); remove_action( 'genesis_header', 'genesis_header_markup_close', 15 ); add_action('genesis_header', 'add_nav_after_structural_wrap', 15); function add_nav_after_structural_wrap() { genesis_structural_wrap( 'header', 'close' ); genesis_markup( array( 'close' => genesis_do_nav() . '</header>', 'context' => 'site-header', ) ); }

April 21, 2020 at 9:16 pm #498111RavenMediaParticipantHi Anita,
This is a site I use to test what I need to use for live sites. As you can see, I was able to get the navigation below the logo and header-right box. One of the issues I'm encountering is making the navigation background span the width of the page. I "fixed" this using CSS vw and negative margins, but I would prefer not to have to do that. I commented out the CSS so what you are seeing is without the CSS.
I want to take the navbar out of the header the way it was in earlier versions of the Sample Theme. I want to be able to style them individually, and I would prefer not to have to do what I consider workarounds or hacks.
Thanks again,
Kelly

Nevermind on the request. I put it back to the default design. I think I am going to go in a different direction.
Thank you for your response.

April 22, 2020 at 7:54 am #498121AnitaKeymasterNot sure if you have the Pro Pack of StudioPress themes, but what I typically will do is figure out my design first and then look for a theme in the package that has most of the features I'm looking for. What you could do is find the themes that closely match your project and pick the one that would be easier to customize, i.e., look for the elements that you do not need to reposition or reconfigure. That's been my rule of thumb for years, plus it helps to jump start a project quicker.

I usually do try to do that, but over the years I have developed/designed different elements that I like to use on the Sample theme. It was disappointing when the header-right widget was removed. I keep trying to get it to work again, but I can never get it quite right.
As far as other themes, I like the Magazine Pro theme because it has the header-right widget. I have used it on a few projects, but I like all the extras I've created using the Sample Theme. I also can't use the full-featured image that spans over the content and sidebar. I tried using a plugin to do it, and it doesn't work. At least it doesn't go from side to side. I can get it to work by adding extra CSS with negative margins, but it also adds the featured image twice on the page.
Oh well. I'll figure something out, or I'll expand out to other solutions. I really miss that header-right widget. 🙂
Thank you again for your response.

April 22, 2020 at 8:03 pm #498148RavenMediaParticipantI'm adding this because can't edit my response. I was able to get the header-right box, I just couldn't change the bg on the nav alone. It's all good.
Thanks!
Kelly
