I really don't like the WP-reCAPTCHA plugin but can't find anything suitable to replace it in WordPress Plugins. Is there a Studiopress plugin or code snippet which is simpler and more user friendly to protect against Spam?

I use Askimet, and it comes highly recommended.

    Thanks Susan.

I do use Akismet but I also had reCapture on the comments but now you've mentioned it I shouldn't need the visitor to enter anything as Akismet will catch it if it's spam. I'm going to take reCapture off and see what happens.

    Thanks for the pointer.

I just installed a plugin called Conditional CAPTCHA. It works with Akismet so that what happens is if Akismet thinks a comment is spam, then it puts a simple CAPTCHA on there, which is very easy to read for humans, doesn't force all commenters to use it.
