    Is there a way to replace the Footer Menu with a social icon plugin, etc. to change the social text links to icons?

    The easiest way is to use the Genesis Simple Edits plugin. Or, you can use this code snippet: https://my.studiopress.com/documentation/snippets/footer/customize-the-site-footer/

    Thanks. I tried Simple Edits and then Simple Hooks but none of the "footer hooks" that I changed had any effect on just the social media line. I'm not sure which hook (or code) affects the social media portion of the footer.

    For anyone else trying to do this:
    I was able to remove the footer social media links by deleting this line from functions.php:
    add_action( 'genesis_footer', 'genesis_do_subnav', 5 );

    I then used a Genesis Extender plugin to create a widget area before_footer and then dragged a social media widget into it and it works.

    In the demo, the theme is using the secondary menu in the site-footer for the social media links. It looks like you are using the Genesis Extender plugin to create the widget area instead of using the built-in Genesis footer widgets. The Genesis footer widgets are disabled in front-page.php. You can remove the code that disabled the footer widgets and use what Genesis provides.
