I am using MAMP on my Macbook and I renamed my WordPress site's database. After I renamed it, I went into wp-config.php and made sure to change the name there as well using Aptana. I restarted the Apache and MySQL server after that and I still cannot login. As a matter of fact, I cannot even access the wp-admin page at all.

I followed the online guidelines to the "T", but still no joy.

Can someone please help me in resolving this issue, please?

    Thank you

    Hey Brian, thanks for responding.

The error is the typical 404 error:

    Not Found

The requested URL /<my site name>/ was not found on this server.

The <my site name> portion still contains the old name even after I changed it in the wp-config.php file.

Just to be clear, are you saying you renamed the actual MySQL db and pointed the site to in wp-config?

Or are you saying you changed the site URL / Domain ? or Both?

Yes, I renamed the actual MySQL db, then I updated the wp-config.php file with that new name to direct the site to it.

But, I am starting over, so no worries.

However, it would be nice to know how I can resolve this issue in the future.

I have read everywhere that I followed the steps correctly, but my site got all "horked" up nevertheless.

That seems to more indicate something is now wrong with htaccess or your virtual hosts config ... the 404 is the http server returning a response of not found. I'd expect a database connection error if there we're something wrong with the db settings per the db rename.

Can you visit the site's root url ok?

If you renamed the site / domain / url -- there's a bit more to do than just rename db and repoint the db.

Also, if you post what guide or guides you followed we can better tell.

Sorry to respond so late regarding this issue.

This was just a dev site using MAMP and I was able to get the site back and running, but now completely forgot how I did that.

    My apologies.

Anyway, the site is now live and everything is going great.

    Thanks
