I'd like to remove the Google+ contact field from user profiles, and the Authorship code that is driven by this field.

Anybody know how to remove this?

Generally you can unset user profile contact fields using a filter. http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Filter_Reference/user_contactmethods

Might need to look in Genesis and see how it was added first to see if this will work.
