Ok, I setup Daily Dish awhile ago...I have done Genesis updates that automatically show in WordPress but today I realized that I am still on version 1.12 of the actual theme and version 2.0 is out. My question is how do I update the theme without trashing my functioning website? Im pretty sure when I set up the theme I did the child theme thing. But what is the process of updating the actual theme?

    Any help is appreciated

    Thanks

    Matt

The Genesis Framework requires the use of a child theme, so yes, you did do the "child theme thing."

Child themes rarely, if ever need to be updated. Unless there is new "must have" functionality in the 2.0 version, I wouldn't bother updating the child theme.

If you must update the child theme, all of the customizations you've done to the 1.12 version will have to be copied over manually otherwise you'll lose them. Customizations are most commonly found in functions.php, style.css and style-front.css if your theme uses one.

Don't overwrite the old theme with the new unless you're sure there are no customizations involved.
