The Minimum Pro Theme version 3.0.1 uses normalize.css version 2.1.2.

Are there any valid reasons for not updating this to the latest version of normalize.css which is 3.0.1?

You may want to ask this at the Help Desk - my.studiopress.com and go to Help. Studiopress could answer that for you.

I have recieved the following answers from StudioPress/CopyBlogger Media:

The latest version of normalize.css has not been tested with the Minimum Pro theme.

They do not plan on moving normalize out of the main style.css as that would add another http request. Reducing HTTP requests improve front-end performance.
