    I'm using a minimally updated Education theme, but I'd like the purple background to not scroll. Is this possible?

    you can use this, maybe

    .education-purple #inner {
    background: url(images/purple/bg-top.jpg) repeat-x;
    background-attachment: fixed;
    }

    the new thing is background-attachment: fixed; in the above snippet.

    I make WordPress websites using Genesis Framework.

    That worked... kind of. At the same time, the background floated up to the top of the page (under the white header), so I lost about 120 pixels worth of background.

    Anyhow - I followed that up by altering the background image so it's taller, and it looks good. Thanks.
