    Hello everybody,

    Using News Pro, I make changes to my text, it's showing the changes in the editor, but not on the front-end of WP.

    editor view

    blog view

    Is there a setting I'm not aware of?

    Thanks!

    Andre

    Hi Andre,

    WordPress is stripping all HTML tags from the automatic excerpt.
    So even though the color is showing in the single post, the color is not being transferred to the excerpt on the home page.

    If you want to show HTML tags you can either set up manual excerpts in the post editor, use a plugin (like Advanced Excerpt) or follow a tutorial:

    (My first post got stuck in the spam filter. I hope this one makes it through.)

    OK, I tried other themes and the same problem occurs. Something nullifies the styling between the text editor and the blog page. Never happened to me before...

    Anyone has ideas how to solve this?

    Thank you in advance...

    Andre

    Hi Erik,

    http://www.vi-control.net/portal

    I went back and pasted text in plain text form. For some reason the text was filled with styling. It seems to be working now!

    Yeah, I noticed that 🙂 And I get your problem now. I missed it because you added another post to your blog ... as well as the Home and Magazine options.

    So the blog post itself is showing the red text ... but the markup is definitely not there on the blog listings page.

    Do you have anything in the Excerpt field? Have you cleared down WP caches, e.g. W3 Total Cache?

    I'm not sure if I'm using the styles properly...

    Post on home page - MIDI “MOCKUPs” for newcomers: http://www.vi-control.net/portal/ shows NO formatting. When you click on it, the post shows it.

    I never use the Excerpt field, I selected to show summary...

    Try changing your settings so that you are displaying the entire content with a zero limit on the number of characters ... then using the <!--more--> option in the text editor. That's what I use ... and it definitely works 🙂

    I did select full text in Reading. Static page. But the home page still doesn't show formatting...

    Here are screenshots. It's been a while since I made a WP site from scratch, so this is very helpful, Erik!

    You are soooo waaaay off track here, my friend 🙂 Let's get you back on the right path, OK? 🙂

    The Reading option is not for your blog posts page ... it's for your syndication (RSS) feed.

    Do the following:

    (1) Genesis -> Theme Settings -> Content Archives:
    - select Display post content
    - "Limit content to 0 characters"

    (2) Go into your post:
    - choose the Text version of the text editor ... not the Visual version
    - pick a spot in your post where you would like your summary to end ... then add <!--more-->

    (3) Save your post. Check your blog posts page.

    Go for it 🙂

    Wow, I was indeed way into the wild... Thanks for this!

    It's all working as it should now, and I'm saving this for archives.

    Is it normal to have formatting at every line or paragraph (text view)?

    This is the default behaviour in WordPress. To turn it off - which I do because I hate it and I want full control over every aspect of my posts - add the following to your functions.php file (should really go into a plugin):

    remove_filter('the_content', 'wpautop');
    remove_filter('the_excerpt', 'wpautop');
    add_filter('the_content', 'wpautop' , 12);

    I tend to work in the text version of the editor rather than the visual version ... so that I know exactly what markup is being used.

    Thanks again! So do I need to recreate the posts already done for this function to be applied?

    I often refer to the text view to make sure there's not too much going on. It slows your site down too.

    Thanks Erik, I can go to bed now! 🙂

    You probably will need to edit each of your pages/posts. No need to recreate them. If you do take those <p> tags out, just remember to remove its associated closing </p> tag 🙂
