Hi, I have been using Genesis now for about 6 months. I use the Sample child theme to create sites. I want to achieve more interesting layouts. I have noticed some Genesis developers are able to add extra ID's in their layouts:

I would like to stop using Bootstrap and just stick to one framework but I can't figure out how Carrie added the ID's in her website. Ideally the top black strip going across the top.

I have done some reading about Hooks and Filters but I am not sure if I am going in the right direction.

Can anyone suggest how I would achieve a similar layout to Carrie? I have managed to create this using css so far:

Any help would be great - Thanks Seb

Thanks Brad. Ironic that a tutorial was on the website I was looking to reference 🙂

I think I understand what I need to learn. Action hooks and filters will give me a few more options with designing layouts.

    Thanks again - Seb
