    Hi,
On this site Pickering Middle School I have a featured widget called 'PICKERING NEWS HIGHLIGHTS'. I'd like to split that into two columns - one half for the news and one for daily/weekly announcement. I know I can set the width to 50% on the home-featured class but how do I get a second column next to it?

    Thanks

You would need to register a new widget, hook it in and modify the CSS code.

I did create a new widget and modified the css. I just can't get the new widget to line up beside the current widget. It shows up but below the featured news and not beside it. Not sure how to hook it in (that may be the problem)
