Hi! I'm having a problem with the sizing of my images in the featured posts widget in the portfolio section of my homepage. Everything is the same as far as the size of the images but some show up the correct size, cropped to fit, and others show up small, throwing the visual design off. I would like them all the same size like they appear in the demo for the modern portfolio theme. I set a featured image for each post, but I can't figure out why some are working and some are not. If anyone has a suggestion, I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance!

That's a little more complex than I thought. You've carefully sizes your images for the slider. That puts you way ahead of many people's abilities! (did I say that?)Most of your folks are 1024 x 682, which works great. But your At The Beach knees guy is 682 x 1024 - portrait orientation instead of landscape, and opposite, in a sense. So he's a bit squeezed in there, and they've re-sized him to fit!
But that's not the whole story - the Swinging photo is also portrait orientation, and it fits fine on Home! She's a little less wide, though, so maybe that's why she's cropped OK on Home. You could maybe try making the "At the Beach" photo dimensions a little close to "Swinging" dimensions and see if that works - basically a little narrower. A bit of math cropping going on, it seems.
All this can be complicated, and may relate to your Media Settings in admin.

I looked again at the sizes of the two portrait images on the homepage, and the advanced settings are telling me they're both sized to 682x1024. I am baffled as to why it crops and resizes one and not the other. Could there be another setting somewhere that I'm missing? As far as I can tell they're both identical as far as size and orientation. I even tried deleting it and importing it again, cropping it to the same dimensions, but it's the same result. For some reason, they're not being handled the same way by the theme, I just wish I knew what that reason was. If you have any other suggestions, I would be glad to hear your thoughts.

I'd have to get in there and tear it all apart to have all the answers, especially because I don't have Modern Portfolio. All that I see is circumstantial, from the outside.I can give you a general answer. With any of these Featured Image plugins, they try to crop your image so it will fit in a defined space, either through CSS, Javascript, or actual image resizing. And as I'd mentioned, it may have to do with your Media settings in admin. Take a peek, you'll see that there will be thumbnail, medium, and large size variations, and the WP Gallery and plugins may make use of these.
If you use Firebug, you could see what I'm seeing. I'm looking at the Homepage, and I see the "At the Beach" kid. That image is actually 2048 x 3072 !! And CSS is squishing it down to fit in that box, so it doesn't fill up the entire page. I look at the Swinging image, and it's a tidy 310 x 210, just right, so it looks good (CSS doesn't have to squish it, it's already good).
So if you can track down where that one image is enormous (and any similar ones), you'll find the answer. I can't from out here. With all the complexity that photo galleries must deal with them, I can easily see why it's not trivial!
