MemberOk, so I can not figure out what is going wrong. When I try to switch to my homepage showing recent articles is still has my static homepage (I cleared the cache) and the article page shows nothing. I'd like to remove the article page and have home show my recent posts, but it ain't happening. Is it something I put in the body php?

MemberSo the current articles page is the way you want the homepage to look, correct? I just want to make sure I understand what needs to happen.

MemberYep, exactly. I did try clicking the "show recent posts for homepage" thing and it doesn't work for some reason.

MemberTry this and see what happens - rename your home.php to something like home-old.php and then choose recent posts in Settings > Reading.

MemberIt works to make the articles homw, but the about box doesn't show up anymore when I do that.

MemberOkay, try this - set the homepage to be Articles and leave the posts page setting blank.

MemberDang, nope. It was still the static front page (which makes no sense) and the articles part was blank.

MemberTake a look now - I *think* it's looking the way it's supposed to. If so, you can remove the articles page since you shouldn't need it. 🙂

MemberYay! 2 things:
1.) How?!
2.) Can I make the about box full page width again? Did you just change the css? Am I not able to do that for some weird reason on the home?December 18, 2013 at 4:51 pm #80056nutsandbolts
MemberRefresh - I just noticed that and fixed it.

MemberThere were a few things missing in your home.php - for one, the function to remove the primary and secondary navigation on the homepage (which is no big deal since you aren't using them anyway). Then I had to change the hook, which is why the About widget wasn't full width at first. I changed your Settings > Reading to show latest posts (which is the only way the widgets on the homepage will work) and changed the Home link in your menu to point to the homepage instead of the page called Home.
I also cleaned up your database while I was in there and installed a plugin that will help with some of the spam comments - I noticed you had over 600, and there were about 25 more in the few minutes I was in there. So hopefully you'll see a decrease in the amount of spam you get.

MemberThank you for all your help! I really like figuring this all out because I have really been enjoying the small amount of code stuff I have done so far. Trying to learn little by little. I think what you just said went a bit over my head. I'm still weirded out that making my site look so similar to the original took so much work.
Yeah, I have been manually clearing spam because every plugin I have looked into people have said real comments go into the spam and stuff so it sounded pointless if I still had to check through the spam. I have already gotten a few more, so I guess I'll see what happens. My spam has increased a huge amount since I had a traffic bump. Thanks again!
