How do I change the colour of the site tagline area from the grey colour it is to a blue colour? and also turn the text white in this area rather than black?

Inspect the area using Firebug and find the classes and CSS which you want to change.

Then you can change the values for the background-color and color for the font in your child themes style sheet.

Alternatively, you can copy each CSS rule to the end of your style sheet and change the value for each color there.

You could also open your child themes style.css file using a program like Notepad++ and use the search feature to find the CSS declarations for the site-tagline class and change the values for the color that way.
