When using the Home Featured widget in Midnight child theme, the site owner isn't happy with the auto-crop of either the featured image or the thumbnail. The image in the actual post works okay, but that first impression on the website isn't good.
Virginia Knapp, artistI'm open to changing to a newer theme, but she wants that solid black background. Her son and daughter-in-law upload images which then don't work for them. Something black and uncomplicated would be good.

http://virginialknapp.comIt's doing that because the images that are associated with the posts are not equal to the size of the slider image. The width of the slider image is 380px. Whatever you put in there, needs to be at "least" 380px wide. If not, that's why the images are displaying like they are. For example - this post - http://virginiaknapp.com/m-species-33-piece-can-be-hung-3-different-ways/ - the image is only 180px wide. That's why it's not displaying properly. So maybe suggest to them to 1) use images wider than 380px and 2) use the Featured Image featured to place the images in there.
