    I am trying to customize the credits text located in the footer section. When I insert the below code into the function.php file to do so, the site goes offline and an error message reading the following appears: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /nfs/c05/h04/mnt/72994/

    Website: http://goldshieldatm.com/

    The code I am inserting into the editor:

    /** Customize the credits */
    add_filter( 'genesis_footer_creds_text', 'custom_footer_creds_text' );
    function custom_footer_creds_text() {
    echo '<div class="creds"><p>';
    echo 'Copyright &copy; ';
    echo date('Y');
    echo ' &middot; <a href="http://goldshieldatm.com/contact">Goldshield ATM Service, LLC</a> &middot;
    echo '</p></div>';

    Try this or use the Genesis Simple Edits plugin http://www.briangardner.com/code/customize-footer/

    If you update the function.php file and genesis does an update, will I lose the change?

    Depends which method you have used.

    You shouldn't need to update the child themes functions.php file.

    Any changes made using the Simple Edits plugin will NOT be effected by any updates.

    Any changes to the Genesis framework will not effect the child theme.
