    I want a manual excerpt without the ellipsis at the end of the excerpt. I've looked up how to do this and tutorials like the one below have asked me to use a "more tag," add some code, or try the plugin. I've tried all three with little success.

    The "more tag" worked the best, but I couldn't figure out how to get rid of the ellipsis. I tried to use the plugin and it broke the more tag. I deleted and the more tag still doesn't work. Anything above the more tag is just displayed as regular text. Frustrating.

    You have to use a filter. https://victorfont.com/how-to-change-the-wordpress-read-more-text/

    In your case, the str_replace would be:

    str_replace( '[…]', '', $text );

    Do I use this code with the More Tag? The more tag is still not working.

    I've added the code to the bottom of my functions.php file, but I'm still running into the same problem when I use the "more tag." The excerpt displays with the ellipsis, and it also displays on the post page.
