    I'm trying to figure out where I need to make the changes to make my logo extend edge to edge on the main page.

    Do you mean the edges of the viewport or the header div? If the latter you just need a larger image.

    I did, its 1400 pixels wide but it never increases in size on the screen.

    The #header has a width of 960px so it can't expand past that. You'd need to set all it's containing elements to that width as well. I recommend installing the Firebug add on for Firefox or using Chrome's Firebug Lite which will enable you to right click on any element to inspect it and determine the associated style rules or the selectors required to create new style rules.
