I'm trying to create a stand alone dropdown that looks like the one on this page (not my site):
    http://www.vamedmal.com/library/car-accidents/

See the box that says "Select a Category (664)"? I want to drop that on certain pages in my site (not sitewide).

This is not a dropdown in the menu. It is a stand alone dropdown.

Been trying to figure out how to put this in the page for several days, but haven't figured it out.

    Any assistance greatly appreciated!

Some additional information would be helpful.

What "Category" does the dropdown device control/tally? actual categories? Posts? Pages? Custom Post Types? Tags? Custom taxonomy?

How would you identify the pages where this would apply?

Where would you prefer that this dropdown appear on the select pages? footer? sidebar? header? body?

If you are placing a dropdown for categories, you could use the Categories widget, select "display as dropdown" +"show post counts" + "show hierarchy" and use one of several plugins to control the placement on select pages e.g. Conditional Widgets.
