MemberI have a strong interest in using membership features on a number of sites. For most of the sites I want to be able to provide content on a per user basis. Can someone provide general guidance of where to look for these features and instructions in Genesis-world?
PS: I am not an experienced web developer per se. I have tried to play with coding the above features mysef, and I have found it to be very cumbersome (probably based on my lack of experience and not knowing what pre-built components to incorporate).
Thanks,
Arif Ali

ModeratorYou probably won't find any Genesis specific instructions for a membership site. The theme has nothing to do with membership features. Search for WordPress membership plugins and find one you're comfortable with using.

MemberThanks for your fast reply. Maybe you can advise me about why and how I should use Genesis based on the following:
1. I'm a high school teacher.
2. I have an engineering background and a programming background
3. I have two objectives for web development: 1) For my own site I want my students to self-pace their learning and be able to take online tests to self-assess. I can make multiple similar practice tests, and I want to keep track of which one's they've done, and automatically give them a different one each time. 2) I also want to develop membership sites for other people. Thanks in advance!

KeymasterHi @arifali based on what you've written you may want to learn how to use WordPress first. Then delve into web development. What you are asking for is really beyond the community support. We (the community) wouldn't be able to provide you with step-by-step instructions on guidance on how to build something. Your project seems to be something you might want to outsource to have built by a reputable web developer and then train you in how to navigate and manage it. Merely installing a plugin will not provide you with enough information to actually build what you want.

MemberThank you. I guess that's what I'll do.
I've used WordPress off and on for years, though not in the past couple of years. In the past, I never found a membership theme or plug-in that clearly did what I wanted. I'll look again, get someone to develop, or ... whatever.
Thanks again,
Arif Ali

Keymaster@arifali a ready-made theme may still not provide you with what you personally need for you and your classmates. Sitting down and discussing all the working parts with someone might give you a better understanding of how all these things need to be connected. Especially how the site needs to be locked down, privacy, etc., etc. And it's difficult for us to try to provide you with what's available when we don't know your full vision. We're only getting a little bit of what you want.
