i am having trouble setting up my website locally. i have my genesis theme and the child (minimum) inside the themes folder but when launching locally, and activating the webpage it does not replicate the live page. there are no pages or content within the localhost page???

i have trawled the internet for resources but i feel like i might be missing a critical step along the way.

if anyone can shed some light on this topic and explain there workflow (dreamweaver, mamp) to develop their site locally, that would be awsome.

    Thanks Alex

Are you trying to pull in the data from the LIVE hosting site into the LIVE LOCAL environment? Did you Export the LIVE site so you can import it to your local environment? Tools > Export and run the export.

    Hi anitac

i have been trying to download everything through cpanel but i am unable to do it cleanly. i have since tryed to connect through Dreamweaver and download the files but when testing with mamp/localhost i can activate my theme but my site content is not there. i have tryed to export from wordpress but i only get the xml or something. how do you work with that?

what steps do you take to get your live site into your local environment ???

    Thanks

You download the XML file to your hard drive. The go to you local WP installation, go to Tools > Import - select WordPress. It may have you download and install the WordPress Import plugin. If so do that and then Import the XML file that you just downloaded. All of your content will then show up.
