I'm trying to link from a list of topics at the top of a post to various related headings within the post.

I found a great article here which explains how and works.
    http://amylynnandrews.com/how-to-link-within-the-same-page/

    Using this code:
Use Text where you want the link to be.
Use where you want it to jump to.

However as i'm using eleven40 pro theme when the link is clicked, it moves the content up past the header so you cant read the start of it.

I can kind of resolved this by adding a number of returns in after the 'jump to' link but i end up with large gaps between paragraphs which makes the post look a bit messy.

Does anyone know how i can jump to a section and keep it in view?

You can use IDs to create anchors that you would then link to. You need to do this in html.

    <a href="#link1">LINK1</a>
    <a href="#link2">LINK2</a>
    <a href="#link3">LINK3</a>

    <h2 id="link1">Heading 1</h2>

    <h2 id="link2">Heading 2</h2>

    <h2 id="link3">Heading 3</h2>
