I may not be approaching this from the most ideal angle (if you have any other ideas/suggestions, please share 🙂 ), but....

The website I'm working on (website #1) is to include a sidebar widget that features products from a companion business (website #2). My attempted approach is using posts with a specific category that are pulled into the Genesis Sandbox widget. What I want / need to have happen is if/when a person clicks on the product, it does not take them to the post page on website #1 but instead takes them to the actual product on website #2. I have the blog page set to exclude this category #, so it presumably won't interfere once the blog is used for true blog posts.

I was going to use the Custom Redirect URL field for the individual posts to do this, and it does; the only issue I now face is it takes the individual off of website #1 and over to website #2, and I apparently am unable to set it to open the link in a new tab.

I'm thinking I could tweak the Genesis Sandbox widget code, but I'm leery to do so out of fear of breaking it. (I am not a php wizard.)

Is there a better way to accomplish this, or is this the most idea approach? If the latter, can someone guide me on the necessary steps to get the url to open in a new tab.

    Thanks in advance!

I would use one of these two widgets because you can customize everything within the widget - title, image, link. You will need to use one for each product though.

Another method is to use a gallery of images with captions, and then add this plugin to allow custom links to products for each gallery image

You don't say if the products are affiliate or from a Woocommerce or other WordPress commerce site. There are probably product widgets for those cases.
