Hello,
I need help with the following;
When someone clicks on the blog tab on my menu bar I only want the posts in the category I have labeled blog to show. Right now it shows all the posts in all the categories even though I have changed the setting by doing the following; Genesis > Theme Settings > Blog Page Template >
Display Category Blog
Exclude Categories 1,2,3,4,5Then clicked on Save settings
Thanks so much,

Have you requested your free website audit yet?April 1, 2016 at 8:06 pm #182700awilliams529MemberHi Victor,
Thanks so much for this info. Since I am so new to wordpress I followed you up until the section entitled filtering your posts where you assume that we know how to set up a blog page (that is a no in my case). So I need some more help.I am just starting to use the blog feature of the altitude child theme. It came with a PAGE called news - post page.
1) I am not sure if I need to set up a new PAGE for every new blog entry I write or if I need to set up a new POST for every new blog entry that I write and then put it under the parent news page.
2) Do I need to create a new PAGE to follow your directions under the filtering your posts section or do I apply these directions to the PAGE that came with the theme I have labeled news - post page.
Thanks,

Still not knowing the answer to my above questions, I took a chance and followed the rest of your instructions from the section entitled "filtering your posts" on and did these instructions on my page titled news - posts page. But it didn't work.
1) What did I do wrong?
2) Can you help me with my questions above so I can better understand how to manage the blogs on my website.
Thank so much,

April 2, 2016 at 8:19 am #182729Victor FontModeratorTo set up a blog page, create a new blank page, assign the blog template to it and save the page. That's all there is to it. Your other page probably didn't work because you didn't assign the blog template to it. The default page template is used for displaying static content only.
If I may make a suggestion, perhaps it would help to learn a little basic WordPress. It can be a little overwhelming to learn WordPress and Genesis at the same time. I have free WordPress video training available on my site. Because of the licensing agreement I have with the author of the videos, I have to keep them protected, so you would have to register to use them. There are 21 videos and it takes about an hour to get through all of them. You will learn everything you need to know about WordPress and it will provide you with the skills you need to have a favorable first experience with Genesis. You can sign up to use the videos here: http://victorfont.com/wp101-training/training-registration/

Have you requested your free website audit yet?April 2, 2016 at 1:09 pm #182763awilliams529MemberHi Victor,
Thanks once again for your response and the resource link. What was confusing me was the logic behind how to set this up. And whether to set up PAGES vs POSTS. So we open a new blank PAGE and then use the blog template. Then for future blog posts we open a new blank POST and then link it to the PAGE we created with the blog template on it by using the categories (on the right side of the screen). Is that correct?
Thanks,
AliceApril 2, 2016 at 3:33 pm #182766Victor FontModeratorNo. There's no linking going on. Assign the new blog post to the correct category and that's it. It's all automatic.
