Limit character limit of front page post

My front page shows the first 5 posts.

I want to continue to show the first 5 posts - - BUT - Is there a way to limit the number of characters for the FIRST POST that appear on my Home Page?
I am using Eleven40 theme.  thanks.

In your home.php, look for this:

if ( function_exists( 'genesis_grid_loop' ) ) {
 genesis_grid_loop( array(
 'features' => 1,
 'feature_image_size' => 0,
 'feature_image_class' => 'alignleft post-image',
 'feature_content_limit' => 0,

Change the feature_content_limit = to the number of characters you would like in your FIRST post.
