Internet Explorer 8 and 9 Stretch Images Vertically? Also, responsive design?

I tried Googling the answers and searching the forum for the answer.

I am using the Prose child theme for http://www.creatingwholehealth.com and the Minimal child theme for http://www.kbfphotography.com.

For the images on the home page of http://www.kbfphotography.com, I used the same width as the theme instructions specified. For the image on the other site, I attached the image at the maximum size, which the theme shrinks to fit the content area.

Should I find out the exact dimensions of the space and size the images that way? How can I stop IE from stretching the images? Firefox doesn't display the images wrong.

I am not sure where to find the answers, so I am asking on here. I couldn't find anything clear on the Web.

Also, when I shrink the browser window in Firefox, the pages shift to accomodate the smaller window. When I change the size of the browser window in IE, the content doesn't change sizes. Does that mean the sites are not responsive in IE?

IE (8 at least) is weird with images having the width / height set in the image tag, plus images having CSS width or height rules set. I would try inserting the image and *not* adjusting it's width or height. Just insert the full-size image and then see how it acts. Your CSS won't allow it to expand beyond the content div, so you don't have to worry about that.
