What I try to build for my (as of now offline) website is a menu for each of my longer posts that shows the headlines and scrolls to that headline if you click on it.

The academic journal PLOS One achieved this very nicely here.

(You can click on 'Introduction' or 'References' in the menu on the left.)

Equally nice (but different) is the solution that qz magazine found (and it is built on WordPress) here.

(you can click on the left menu and if you scroll the main text additional text is loaded if you reach the bottom and it also shows you where you are on the left menu (by highlighting the colour))

I have searched for this for a long time but I was not successful in finding any solution to do this myself. Does Genesis make this possible? Has anyone seen someone doing this?

    Thanks a lot! Best, Max

I forgot to mention why I thought this might be possible..

There is something quite similar in a Genesis Child Theme that I found! If you look at the child theme here you can see the exact effect that I am looking for if you click on 'Services', 'Blog', etc. in the upper left hand corner!

If this menu would be fixed on the left and would link to the headlines of the post, page it would be amazing!

I found a solution to this problem using the plugin 'Table of Contents plus'. You can see it on my website here in the left hand menu.

Maybe you do not see it because it is a responsive theme and if your browser window is too small it does not show. In a large browser window you should see it on the left.
