    I'm using the Genesis theme, and have run into something strange when inserting images to posts...

    My client's site is smallbusinesstalent.com: http://smallbusinesstalent.com/

    Have a look at the first three posts on the front page, named "Uploading an Image 1", "Uploading an Image 2", and "Uploading an Image 3".

    They each illustrate a different way of inserting an image, all of them using the "upload/insert" icon:

    "Uploading an Image 1" illustrates uploading an image from my computer. I did not upload or indicate it as a featured image, but the image acts as if I have. It was duplicated on the front page when it was in the #1 position, and the thumbnail continues to show even when it moves down to a third position on the home page. When you click this image it takes you to the blog post permalink.

    "Uploading an Image 2" illustrates inserting an image from the media library. Again, inserted into the post, not as a featured image. When clicked it takes you to a page with no clear connection to the blog post at all, but apparently with some connection to the first instance in which the image was used (on a specific page - "I-recommend").

    "Uploading an Image 3" illustrates inserting an image from a url. When you click it, you don't go anywhere.

    So, here are my questions...

    1)  Why does an image uploaded from my computer (in the case of "Uploading an Image1") show up in duplicate, with one of the images acting like a featured image, even though it is not one?

    2) And why does clicking an image (in the case of  "Uploading an Image1" & "Uploading an Image2") take me to random different pages, instead of to a blank html page with just the image, which is what I would expect, and what happens when you click an image in one of the pages?

    3) What do I do if I want a featured image to also show up in the body of the post? If I insert it as a featured image alone, it only shows up on the front page of the blog; if I insert it as both a featured image and an image in the blog post, it shows up twice on the front page. I want it to show up once(!) on the front page of the blog post, and once in the body of the post. How would I do that, if it is even possible?

    Thanks for any help you can give.

    Sorry, I meant to say I'm using the "Generate" theme. And I apologize if I have posted this in the wrong place.

    I think the images in the first two posts are behaving the same when you look at each individual post. I'm wondering if perhaps they are behaving differently in the front page because "Uploading an Image 1"  is down in the  grid section and "Uploading an Image 2" is in the featured section. I think what's happening is that the featured posts are showing the full content and so, when you click on the image, it takes you to the image attachment page - just like it does when you look at a post individually. The grid posts are creating a thumbnail image that is linked to the individual post. I believe that Generate is set up such for that the featured posts above the grid, it will display the first image within the post, whether that image has been designated the Featured Image or not.

    So, for the first two posts, I don't think it's a function of how you attached the image. I MAY BE WRONG.

    For the third one, there is no image attachment page because it's pulling the image from somewhere else instead of from your site - well, I mean, maybe it THINKS it's pulling the image from another site, because you pasted the URL in.

    Thanks for helping to think this through, Dorian.

    The main problem is that the Featured Posts (the first two on the front page) are duplicating any image that comes into the post via upload. Is there a reason for this?

    I don't know what this idea of an "image attachment page" is about, and why it is different on a post than it is on a page, but that's just a strange additional detail (as is the image not linking to a url - why should it matter whether a url is internal to your site or not? These things are beyond me :-). The main issue is not being able to upload images directly into a post without them being duplicated.

    Of course the other main problem is how to get an image in a post to show up as both a featured image once it is no longer in the "featured post" section, AND in the body of the post itself without there being a duplicate image when the post is in the featured post section.

    Can anyone help clarify how this works? Thanks.

    Amy - do you have access to the old support forum? It appears this topic was addressed there a few times. I'm pasting in some code from one of the threads (thread is here: http://www.studiopress.com/support/showthread.php?t=110669). The fix that worked in that case was as follows:

    It depends on which you want to change

    PHP Code:
    'feature_image_size' => 'featured',
    'feature_image_class' => 'alignleft post-image',
    'feature_content_limit' => 0,

    Either set a value like 500 for the feature_content_limit or set the feature_image_size to 0
