    Hi,

I'm using the centric pro theme for a new site. I've pretty much stuck to the layout from the demo site / setup guide. The result so far is here: getcallmetrics.com

I want to insert a background image into the 'home 1' area only, i.e. the area marked red in this image: Page overview. I've tried the various options (tile, not tile, repeat etc.) with various image sizes but so far it just looks rubbish.

Please can someone recommend the correct image size and settings and I can then go away and find an appropriate stock photo!

    Thanks,

    Matt

    Hello,

    Maybe this will help:

I stumbled onto a web site the other day that was using the Centric theme...I noticed it because I use that theme myself...and they were using a large image at the top of the page just as you have in mind.

I went back there just now, after reading your question, and I see that the size of the image as they are using it is 1820 x 1055 pixels.

If you go to http://corrector.nl you'll see that what they have there looks good...so maybe that's a good size...although of course you have to realize that images with these dimensions can take a long time to load on the page (depending on how you optimize the image), so keep that in mind.

Hey Neetso, check out this guys site - he uses a background image. http://robejero.com/

Let me know how you go, I'm attempting to do the same. wpsniffer.com is a good tool to find out sites using a theme.

    Thanks @samnz,
I see that the image you're referring to is 1900 x 1250 pixels..fairly close to the size of the one I saw on that other site. So it looks like an image anywhere around those two sizes should work.

Superb information about this here: http://www.webmalama.com/the-best-full-screen-background-image-sizes-for-web-design/

"1440 x 900 is my magic number for general full screen backgrounds.
If it is a partial screen height design, then I keep 1440 and do whatever height is called for.
If it is a full width background slider with more than 3 or 4 images, I size it down as far as 960 x 600 to save on load time without diminishing image quality too much when they stretch.
If you can, use media queries to serve from a pool of 3 or 4 perfectly-sized images for each image in your background"

thanks for your help @samnz and @moodyriviera. In the end, I copied the dimensions used by another site using the centric theme: wp101plugin.com (one of the sites in the studiopress showcase).
