    WP VERSION 3.9
    powering the child genesis theme

was in my dashboard (the site in question is http://www.screencomment.com and, in a moment of boredom, clicked on APPEARANCE and then THEMES, and tried a LIVE PREVIEW of the next theme over, just to see what it would look like (got a blank screen). I did not hit ACTIVATE.

I then either hit CANCEL or closed the browser tab altogether. All straight.

And then, for some reason, our homepage got replaced with placeholder text.

(everything else is fine, individual articles still appear OK, etc)

    thanks a lot

    Hi
I think you just need to re-position your widgets..
The text you see is because the widget you had there is inactive.
Drag the widgets back in place and it should be fine..
At least thats what happened to me once a few years ago.
    🙂

Exact same thing happened to my wife today. She uses the Lifestyle Pro theme, and all she did was try the live preview feature of WP3.9, and then KABOOM, her site is screwed. http://www.fairhopesupply.com is the site. All the widgets (which were extensively customized) are gone.

Then the live preview feature is removing the widgets. Let WordPress.org know in the forums.

The widgets screen has an "inactive widgets" holding area where the widgets you last used are kept.
