    I would like to place an image as a background on the homepage.

    I am using WordPress 4.3.1 and running Magazine Pro Theme theme, latest version.

    I can't find where to make the change in the customize settings.

    Could you please tell me.

    The theme is not coded to display a background image on the front page only however you can use the customize settings to display an background image sitewide.

    To display on the front page only, you would need to use a plugin or custom code to add it directly to the front-page.php or home.php file or conditionally from your functions file.
