    Hello,

I've just joined the StudioPress community and I've purchased the theme: Altitude Pro. There are some CSS tweaks that I'd like to do but I'm reluctant to simply inject my custom css into the existing style.css file. To me this would not be a safe practice in the event that an update is released for Altitude Pro. If and when I would install the update, my custom changes would be overriden.

Is there any tips or tricks that anyone can share on this issue?

One option is Jetpack's Custom CSS Editor.

Another may be this WordPress plugin here (which I haven't used myself).

Altitude Pro is your child theme. Only the framework gets updated.

@dover makes a very good point. You usually have to update the child theme yourself. The question then becomes ...

Do you trust yourself not to overwrite your own style.css file? 🙂

I just answered a similar question in a different string...and the answer applies here, as well:

Carrie Dils is an expert Genesis developer, and here's what she had to say about updating child themes...if you follow the link and scroll down to this section you can read about it:
"Will I ever need to update or upgrade my child theme?"

    http://www.carriedils.com/third-party-genesis-themes/

You'll see that (apparently) other than creating a totally new "Pro" version of their themes, StudioPress does *not* update their child themes.

Thank you all for the helpful replies! I had considered writing some elaborate plugin that would supplement the theme. But things would get messy real quick if I ever needed to implement custom page templates etc. I now have the peace of mind to edit the child theme directly.
