I have bought a few Genesis child themes and they all have wide gaps on each side of the screen (with a background that I can usually change).
I really want to create a site with a full width screen (i.e. have content instead of the background image).
    I have 2 questions:
    1) Is there a reason that these gaps are left on each side?
    2) Is there a way to turn these themes into full width themes or do I need to buy a new theme that is programmed to be full width.

I am now working on modern studio pro but since all themes that I purchased are not full screen this might be a general question unrelated to a particular theme.

Gaps on the side are CSS margins, padding, or a combination of both. If you know CSS, you can change anything your want. In most cases, you just need to change the site-container or site-inner wrap.

Make sure you're using the full-screen layout as well.
