    I am using the executive pro theme. I have searched for information on how to create a portfolio and can't find any. I would like a page containing different portfolios of services-- landscaping, outdoor/patio, lawn care-- etc.
    Once you click on the portfolio you want, it will have thumbnail images lined in columns, and when you click on the image, a large one opens up...

    Surely I am missing something very simple here...

    Already built into your theme. Simply add new Portfolio items.

    I thought so- I mean I saw the "Portfolio" staring at me. Just never used it. What is the difference between a portfolio and an image gallery?

    Image gallery is images only.

    The portfolio CPT adds a single cpt page for each item and then a archive which displays the featured image and title.

    I suggest you add a few pages to the portfolio with content and check out the archive.
