    Hi,

    Ive created a custom post tyle and copied and pasted the single files over so it says 'single-latest_news.php' to my child theme. however i am trying to create a menu that says ' latest news' and then when you click on it, it shows all the latest news and then when you click on a single news it shows the full story. How would i go about doing that?

    Many thanks

    Horace

    add_action( 'init', 'create_custom_post_type' );

    function create_custom_post_type() {

    $labels = array(
    'name' => __( 'Latest News' ),
    'singular_name' => __( 'Latest News' ),
    'all_items' => __('All Latest News')
    );

    $args = array(
    'labels' => $labels,
    'public' => true,
    'has_archive' => true,
    'rewrite' => array('slug' => 'latest_news'),
    'supports' => array( 'title', 'editor', 'genesis-seo', 'thumbnail','genesis-cpt-archives-settings' ),
    );

    register_post_type( 'latest_news', $args);
    }

    Simply link to the CPT archive like this example http://example.com/latest_news/

    Also, you don't need to add CPT templates for single and archives as WordPress uses the template hierarchy to load the standard single and archive templates included in Genesis.

    Ok thanks but how can i make it show a excerpt instead of the whole story and display thumbnails?

    There's different methods.

    1. If your CPT supports excerpts, you can use the wordPress excerpts meta box to add a custom excerpt.

    2. Use the Genesis > Theme Settings > Content Archives > Display Entry excerpts

    3. Create a CPT archive file and add code to it to remove the content and add a excerpt.

    Otherwise, you can use code to modify the CPT loop.
