ParticipantHello and good morning,
The answer is probably obvious as there must be a way to do it, but I cannot see how to allow a client to have access to the theme setup documentation for the theme I provided them. ( I'm a pro plus member ) Maybe it can be downloaded?
I tried to get them to create an account to access the material but it seemed no matter what they ended up needing to buy the theme to get at the documentation. The Live Demo was available though.
All and any help appreciated.
Rick Stewart

Rick Stewart

ModeratorStudio Press theme setup documentation are all a series of HTML documents only accessible through a user's support account. They are not downloadable. I suppose you can always copy and paste to create your own documentation.
Third party community marketplace themes may have a downloadable component, but that's entirely up to the theme developer.

ParticipantHey Victor,
That surprises me really. One of the reasons you buy the developer "pro plus" memberships is to resell your clients the themes, but it is difficult to see why Studiopress would hold back the documentation, which in fact the client will have paid for. Well at least that is how I see it. They buy the theme from us, they get the theme and the docs...
Anyway, I suppose I will end up doing what you suggest, copy every page and make up my own documentation. I guess I will not be making any profit off this sale.
Thanks for the answer Victor, I really appreciate it.
I will not be marking it as resolved however.
Cheers
Warm regards,

ModeratorWhen you resell clients the themes, you're accepting the responsibility for supporting them. Studio Press support is only for customers that purchase theme from Studio Press.
As an FYI, I do not provide my clients with theme documentation. I put them on a monthly maintenance plan 30-days after I release a new website build to them. I write it all in my contracts.
If a client leaves, which is rare, all the information they need about getting their own licenses and support is in the off-boarding document.

ParticipantWell I guess we will agree to disagree on this. I do not see theme documentation as a "support" function.

ParticipantI may be wrong, but I don't think you can ethically 'resell' StudioPress themes e.g. sell an unmodified StudioPress child theme for $49 etc.
However, as a Pro Plus member, you can install StudioPress themes on a client's website but the client would have to purchase a licence to have access to StudioPress support and theme documentation.
That's how I think it works (no offence intended) 🙂

ParticipantNo offence taken, lol...
If that is in fact the case I will be careful to present the facts in a more accurate way to my clients. I've never sold a theme as a line item, only as part of a package price, but I may have inferred the package price included it.
Thanks for pointing that out. It is still a great "closing the deal" feature that clients see as a nice cost saving, Studiopress support or not.
