    I would like visitors enter a user name & password before the can access content on a specific webpage.

    You can do that using the settings in the WordPress edit screen > Publish > Visibility > Password protected

    Or you can use a plugin like Members which enables you to restrict access to specific pages/posts for specific roles which you can apply to specific users using the built in WordPress Role settings for members.
